GREEN BUILDING - For the building(s) in which your business operates

(Attention Builders: See Buying/Selling Green section.)

Green building is a collection of certified building design, construction, and operation practices that create energy-efficient, healthier, and environmentally sustainable new and existing buildings. Whether your business is involved in renovating an existing space or constructing a new building, the LEED®, Built Green™ and Energy Star certification programs have something to offer you.

Green buildings:

  • have lower operating costs and increased asset value
  • are healthy and comfortable for their occupants
  • reduce waste sent to landfills
  • conserve energy and water
  • reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions
  • qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances, and other incentives in hundreds of cities
  • demonstrate an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility

What else can we do?

When considering a new landscaping project or exterior work, protect and retain existing landscaping and natural features. Select plants that have low water and pesticide needs, and generate minimum plant trimmings. Recycled content paving materials, furnishings, and mulches help the environment as well as lowering costs.

To apply:

To earn points in this category, your business must have received certification within the last five years in at least one of the following programs:

  • LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) - Silver Level or above
  • Built Green™ - Level 3 or above
  • ENERGY STAR - 75 Rating or above (check new and existing building differences)
