Bronze Designation Examples

The following examples are provided to show the type of efforts that could help an employer earn bronze WorkWell designation.

Organizational Support

Supportive Environment

  • Design a method to regularly provide reminders, through email, newsletters or brochures, about ways to make healthier choices during the work day.
  • Expand the organization’s vision statement or strategic plan to incorporate employee health and fitness.
  • Provide educational funding/reimbursement/paid time off or flexible work arrangements for employees who attend health related workshops or courses.


Policy and Practice

  • Start a workgroup focused on workforce health that allows employees in different job classes to assist in the design and implementation of plans for change.
  • When orienting new employees, cover all health-connected benefits offered through the employer.  Annually inform current staff of new and existing health benefits.

Silver & Gold Designation Examples

The following examples are provided to show the type of efforts that could help an employer earn silver or gold WorkWell designation. 


Healthy Eating

Supportive Environment

  • Incorporate healthy foods into employee potlucks, events and meetings.
  • Support shift work by having healthy food choices available in vending machines.
  • Provide a way for employees to store and prepare food at work by providing a refrigerator, microwave and sink available at no- cost to employees.

Policy and Practice

  • Create a healthy food guideline for use when planning employer-sponsored events, so that staff ordering menu items can easily identify alternatives and request healthier options.
  • Assure that managers and supervisors routinely reinforce and show support for taking lunch breaks and eating away from work spaces or vehicles, when possible.
  • Establish an agreement that makes healthier beverages available onsite for no-profit or low-profit purchase, such as 100% juice and bottled water.
